TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - It was an emotional night for local parents grieving after losing a child.

"It six weeks between knowing of his existence and losing him,” said Samuel Edwards, who lost his son in April. “Dealing with that has been an adventure and that's why we're here tonight."

Samuel Edwards and his wife, Amy, came to the 10th annual “Walk to Remember” to honor and reflect on the life of their baby boy.

Their son, Dylan Edwards, died just one week after his birth. He was 15 weeks premature.

"The first time I was able to hold him was when he was dead,” said Edwards. “I just started crying. I couldn't stop ... I couldn't hold it in. It just came."

The Edwards family isn't alone with their struggle. Dozens of parents and family members came out to the event, put on by the Capital Area "Healthy Start Coalition."

Event-goers took part in a memorial service and a candlelight walk around Lake Ella.

Organizers say the event gives parents comfort in knowing they aren't alone.

"People come back year after year because it provides them with support. It provides them with a chance to honor their baby," said Ann Davis.

Coalition leaders say 1,500 infants died in 2009 in Florida. We’re told 24 of those deaths happened in Leon County.

"We're glad to comfort others who have gone through the same thing and just be able to celebrate the lessons and the lives of our own son," said Edwards.
