In 2002, the Healthy Pregnancy Network initiated a series of Bereavement support activities to decrease the isolation of grieving families & to increase community sensitivity to their plight. This initiative stemmed from a recommendation of the Infant Morality Review Team. The Home InterviewWe reach out to every family who loses an infant to death or stillbirth in our 6-county region. During the home interview, the family is able to remember their lost baby and discuss the pregnancy, birth, parenting experience, and their grief. The information gathered during this interview is also incorporated into the work of the fetal and infant mortality review team. Walk to Remember“Walk to Remember,” an annual “evening of comfort, wisdom and hope for families who have suffered the heartbreaking loss of an infant” is attended by 200 people each year. View Walk to Remember 2008 photos. Memorial QuiltsParents are able to leave a lasting memorial to their babies through participation in our Memorial Quilts. We now have 5 beautiful quilts made from the names of beloved and much-missed local infants. These quilts are a wonderful community treasure and resource housed at Healthy Start. They are available for loan to community groups who wish to use them for health education and awareness.Training for Health Care Professional“Supporting Families through Infant Loss: A Day of Training for Home Visitors” was developed to increase empathy in professionals who work with pregnant and parenting women. The day of training is structured to help home visitors, who may have had no previous experiences themselves with birth or death, get a feeling for what these families experience at this time of crisis. The Day ends with a moving presentation by mothers & fathers who have experienced the death of an infant and been helped by the Healthy Pregnancy Network. The next training is on 2.21.07 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Download the training flier. |
